Shirehall Gallery

Seems like I have neglected this page but the autumn has, just like last year, been busy with portrait commissions, I just got the last one off in the post on Friday.
I also sent some work to Galleri Backlund in Gothenburgh and am looking forward doing more for them next year.
‘Persevere Court’ has, along with one of my beloved caravans and some smaller work, travelled to the Shirehall Gallery in Stafford for a January exhibition. More on that later.
Thanks to all of you who commissioned and bought work in the past year!

Only a few days after Jake Chapman said taking kids to see art is a ‘total waste of time’ it was good to see dozens of ‘not yet humans’ experiencing the work at Jupiter Artland outside Edinburgh! Here’s H tangled up in Antony Gormley’s ‘Firmament’

I have had two paintings picked for ‘Inspired!’, this year’s Macmillan Art Exhibition at Bonhams (Auctioneers), 22 Queen Street, Edinburgh. As this is festival venue 216 I guess I’m actually in an Edinburgh Fringe show this year! 🙂 See details HERE

Not sure what was going on at the museum today (something about portrait painter of the year?) but it looked like fun!

Me and E enjoyed the colourful exhibition by Jim Lambie at the Fruitmarket Gallery in Edinburgh, as part of ‘Generation’. Top tip if you go: Use the lift rather than the stairs to the first floor, you’ll see why!

Lucky us to get the whole courtyard of the Old College on South Bridge filled with brilliant terracotta warrior lanterns. Think they’ve gone elsewhere now though.

The advert for portrait commissions was a success and I’ve been busy painting lots of lovely children. I thought it would tail off after Christmas but no sign of it so far!

Newbloodart.com is an excellent web gallery worth checking out and I am very pleased to be represented by them so it is one of my priorities to give them some new work asap. A wander around Leith taking pictures of some of the buildings here will hopefully provide inspiration and a start. The refuse station in the painting on the home page is from just a few blocks away and one of my favourite Edinburgh buildings.

I’ve just started doing the children’s portrait commissions again, get in touch if interested, here’s one from last year:

I am, along with around 80 other artists, donating work to the Scottish Visual Arts charity auction in aid of the Royal Hospital for Sick Kids in Edinburgh. It is happening on the 24th October and should be a great opportunity to pick up art at good prices for a good cause. I will post more details shortly!

Lena and Bjorn from Galleri ArtOn have set up an exhibition at ‘Galleri en trappa ner’ in Gothenburgh called ‘Våryra’, I have a couple of pieces there, pop in before it ends on May 15th.

I had a great response from an advert about portrait commissions before Christmas – keep them coming!

Some more of my work has found its way to my Swedish home county of Dalsland, as a part of Dalslands konstforening’s exhibition at Stenebyskolan: http://steneby.se/web/Konsthallen.aspx
The opening is 21st October 3-5pm

On October 24th is ‘Konstens natt’ in Stockholm – I have some work at Galleri Ekvall+Tornblom, on Hornsgatan

I’m taking part in an exhibition at Marburae Gallery in  Macclesfield called ‘Pop, Print and Stitch!’ It opens in September, info below for anyone who’s in the area!

Pop, Print & Stitch! 6th Sept – 13th Oct, opening 6th Sept 7pm-9pm

Just sent 4 paintings off to Galleri Vals in deepest Dalsland, which also happens to be where I grew up. This is a really exciting gallery and I am very happy to be taking part in their summer exhibition, ‘När jag blir stor’ (‘When I grow up’)

Below is one of the images for them. (As my own 3-year old model doesn’t stay still for very long, I painted this from a photograph of him, and spent an evening cutting out tiny shapes of fuzzy felt for the feathers in his wings.)
